So the 25th FAI World Aerobatic Championships 2009 are underway but after two beautiful days of glorious sunshine which welcomed pilots and planes onto British soil, on the first day of competition rain and wind put a spanner in the works!

So there are no results from Thursday’s Q round but despite the first day of the competition being rained off the first few days of the World Aerobatic Championships 2009 have had nevertheless had WOW written all over them.

Tuesday saw a huge press launch at Silverstone. High prolife media got airside and trackside to meet the organisers of WAC and representatives from Flying Aces, BAeA and Silverstone were all on duty. Also present were drivers from the British Touring Car Championship which crosses paths with WAC on the 29th Aug.

In the spirit of motor sport competition the HiQ Touring Car favourites Matt Neal, Colin Turkington and Jason Plato all went for a new kind of spin in an aerobatic aeroplanes while Flying Aces president Jeff Zaltman and BAeA chairman Alan Cassidy took to the track in a high speed lap of the famous circuit. Everyone agreed that Aerobatics made everything else pale by comparison.

A lovely opening ceremony on Wednesday night at the Staverton Hotel put everyone in the right spirit for a great competition – it’s just a shame the weather wasn’t invited! Let’s hope today is much better and we can start to see some scores on the table!

Please check in every day for results updates!.
